BRODY WHITE

Red Lake to Pikangikum First Nations

In February 2020, 40+ fat bike riders from across Canada (some experienced, some not), came together to participate in the Ice Road Challenge. Riding 110km from Red Lake, Ontario to Pikangikum First Nations. As part of a fundraiser for the Pikangikum Bike Shop initiated by New Hope Community Bikes and the Ontario Provincial Police, these riders raised $50,000+ to help fund the bike shop for electricity which currently runs off of a generator if they can have access to it, bike tools and employment opportunities. Flying from Toronto to Thunder Bay, catching a chartered bus to Red Lake, the riders would begin first thing the following morning. With weather reaching -40 celsius, the ride was split into 2 days to avoid any risks of hypothermia.
